House of David is marching toward the throne-and the end of the road.
Amazon MGM Studios and Wonder Project have confirmed that production is underway in Greece on the third and final season of the popular biblical drama. The announcement delivers good and bad news for fans: David's story will receive a planned conclusion, but the coming season will also bring the series to an end. Deadline confirmed that Season 3 will be the show's last.
Michael Iskander will return as David, while Ali Suliman will reprise his role as the increasingly troubled King Saul and Ayelet Zurer will return as Queen Ahinoam. The final episodes will follow David's dangerous journey from fugitive and outcast to Israel's king.
Before David can claim the crown, he must survive Saul's pursuit. Season 3 will find the future king living in exile, hiding among Israel's enemies and confronting betrayal, sacrifice and the personal cost of his divine calling. The story appears set to draw upon the tense biblical period in which David seeks refuge among the Philistines while Saul's kingdom moves toward its tragic collapse.
Executive producers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn said the third season will complete the story they intended to tell from the beginning. Rather than suggesting the series was abruptly canceled, the filmmakers described House of David as a planned trilogy tracing David's transformation from overlooked shepherd to warrior and king.
"Season 3 brings us to the final season of this trilogy, the chapter of David's life we set out to tell from the very beginning," Erwin and Gunn said.
For Iskander, the farewell will be personal. The actor said playing David has changed his life and allowed him to grow alongside a character defined by courage, ambition, weakness and difficult choices.
That complexity has helped distinguish House of David from safer biblical productions. David is presented not merely as the boy who defeated Goliath, but as a gifted yet flawed man whose rise brings danger, temptation and painful consequences. The final season now faces its biggest challenge: taking him to the throne without losing sight of the faith that shaped his calling.
No premiere date has been announced. For now, cameras are rolling in Greece-and the countdown to David's crown and the show's final goodbye has officially begun.
