Lights, camera, Nashville! One of Christian music's most beloved couples is taking their love story from the stage to the silver screen as production officially begins on AFFIRM Films' A Music City Story.
Fans of Joel Smallbone, one half of the Grammy-winning duo for KING & COUNTRY, and his wife, actress and singer Moriah Smallbone, have a new reason to celebrate. The real-life husband-and-wife pair will star opposite one another in the upcoming music-driven drama, bringing their genuine chemistry to a story about second chances, faith and finding your voice.
Filming is now underway on location throughout Nashville, giving the movie an authentic Music City backdrop as it follows struggling singer-songwriter Mo, who walks away from a controlling manager in hopes of rebuilding both her career and her life. Along the way, she meets Ran, a contractor whose quiet encouragement helps her rediscover her faith, confidence and passion for music.
The project reunites the Smallbones with filmmaker Adam Anders, who previously directed them in Journey to Bethlehem. Anders not only wrote and directed the film but also collaborated with Moriah Smallbone on its original soundtrack.
The cast is packed with recognizable faces, including Josh Holloway, Christine Ebersole, Veronica Falcón, Randy Houser, Cress Williams, and country music icon **Tanya Tucker>.
According to Anders, Nashville is far more than a filming location.
"Nashville isn't just the setting of this film, it's the heartbeat of it. This is a story about second chances, faith, and the songs we're still meant to write."
For Joel and Moriah Smallbone, the project carries an even deeper meaning. The couple revealed that they originally fell in love while writing music together, making A Music City Story feel like a natural extension of their own creative journey.
"We fell in love writing a song together," they shared, adding that the movie is inspired by their heritage, marriage and the dreams they've pursued side by side. They described the film as deeply personal, centered on choosing one another every day while chasing God-given dreams.
Producer Kevin Downes believes audiences can expect an emotional experience, calling the film "deeply moving" and praising its combination of heartfelt storytelling and an original soundtrack.
Meanwhile, Rich Peluso said the film taps into the growing global fascination with Nashville and country music while exploring themes of loneliness, healing and authentic relationships.
A Music City Story continues AFFIRM Films' growing slate of faith-based productions following successes including The Forge, Journey to Bethlehem, Jesus Revolution, and I Can Only Imagine.
While no release date has yet been announced, the film is already generating buzz thanks to its blend of romance, inspirational themes, original music and the undeniable appeal of seeing Joel and Moriah Smallbone share the screen for the very first time as leading stars.
