KDNS Gets Real About Love, Letting Go, and the Message Behind “Blame Game”

Published: Jul 09, 2026 03:46 AM EDT

Connecticut singer-songwriter KDNS is quickly establishing himself as one of Christian R&B's most compelling new voices. Following a breakout year that included more than two million streams, placements on VH1's Black Ink Crew, and the opportunity to work with GRAMMY-winning producer Rodney Jerkins, the New Haven artist is continuing his upward trajectory with "Blame Game," a powerful duet featuring Briana Maia.

Rather than telling a familiar story of heartbreak and blame, the song explores the courage it takes to look inward and accept responsibility in a relationship. In this exclusive interview, KDNS shares the inspiration behind the deeply personal track, explains why Briana Maia was the perfect collaborator, reflects on the importance of writing from lived experience, and offers a glimpse into the most vulnerable and creative season of his career yet.

Listen to "Blame Game" here.

Q: For listeners who may be discovering your music for the first time, who is KDNS, and what do you hope people learn about you through your songs?

KDNS is a singer-songwriter from Connecticut trying to bridge the gap between faith and mainstream music. I want listeners to identify with an artist who is unapologetically walking and growing through life with their music. No gimmicks-just love and art.

Q: "Blame Game" takes a different approach to relationship struggles by focusing on personal responsibility instead of pointing fingers. What inspired the concept behind the song, and why did that perspective resonate with you?

When Briana and I sat down to put this record together, we wanted to break the mold of the typical R&B duet and give listeners something to think about and resonate with. Love and relationships require a commitment to accountability. That concept resonated strongly with both of us because we aspire to healthy, long-lasting relationships in our personal lives.

Q: You teamed up with Briana Maia on this release. What made her the right collaborator for this song, and how did her contribution help bring the story to life?

Briana Maia is an artist I've wanted to work with for a long time. She brings such a high level of excellence to everything she does. This record simply could not have happened without her.

Q: Relationships can be complicated, especially when both people are trying to grow while dealing with their own flaws. What conversations do you hope "Blame Game" sparks among listeners who may see themselves in the lyrics?

The heart of this song is for people to truly take a look in the mirror and realize that putting down your ego is one of the most beautiful things you can do. Hopefully, we can spark conversations about how to find light in the midst of disagreement. We all struggle with ourselves, even when we don't notice.

Q: The song wrestles with themes of guilt, self-reflection, and the fear of losing someone you love. What did you learn about yourself as a songwriter and artist while creating this track?

Writing this record helped me realize that the best lyrics and the best concepts are the ones that truly come from personal experience. Sometimes we push ourselves to create things that people can identify with, but we forget that we don't have to look very far. We are the most relatable thing about us.

Q: You've already accomplished a great deal early in your career, from major placements to millions of streams. Looking ahead, what's next for you, and what can fans expect from your future music?

God has not ceased to amaze me with all the incredible things that have been happening. For fans and listeners who have been tapped in from the beginning, I think you're about to hear the most vulnerable, creative version of KDNS-and what I consider to be my best work yet. Thank you all for taking this ride with me. May our family continue to grow.
