Skillet Hits a Massive Milestone as ‘Monster’ Joins Spotify’s Billion-Stream Club

Christian rock powerhouse Skillet is celebrating a career-defining achievement after their smash hit song Monster officially surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, earning a coveted place in the streaming platform's Billions Club.

The accomplishment is even more remarkable considering the song has now been streamed more than 4 billion times across all platforms, cementing its status as one of the most successful rock songs of the modern era. According to the band's announcement, "Monster" is also believed to be the first Christian song ever to cross the 1-billion-stream threshold on Spotify.

But the celebration doesn't stop there.

Frontman John Cooper and the band simultaneously unveiled plans for a brand-new single titled "Scream," arriving July 10. The track was inspired by Cooper's growing frustration with today's increasingly hostile culture and online discourse.

Speaking to fans during a sold-out European show in Bulgaria, Cooper explained that the song emerged from watching people tear each other apart online and in real life.

"The world has gone crazy," Cooper said. "People are angry and it breaks my heart."

Rather than responding with bitterness, Cooper says the chaos has pushed him toward prayer, compassion, and, naturally, louder rock music.

The singer later revealed that Skillet deliberately leaned into a heavier sound while recording the new track.

"We've got to go all-in," Cooper said, explaining that reconnecting with a producer who worked with the band in their earliest days helped inspire the direction of the new music.

"Scream" explores the feeling of wanting your life to matter when everything around you feels unstable and overwhelming - a theme Cooper believes resonates deeply in today's social media-driven culture.

The announcements come as Skillet prepares to launch a major fall tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough album Comatose, the record that helped transform the band into one of Christian rock's biggest global acts.

For longtime fans, the timing feels especially significant. Twenty years after Comatose helped define a generation of rock listeners, Skillet is still breaking records, selling out venues, and proving that their influence extends far beyond the Christian music market.
