According to a report published by The Christian Post, worship artist Cory Asbury has opened up about a deeply personal spiritual restoration, revealing that fellow Christian musician Forrest Frank played a pivotal role in leading him back to God after several years away from ministry and faith.
The "Reckless Love" singer shared the emotional testimony through social media, describing a painful five-year period in which he intentionally walked away from ministry despite fully knowing, in his own words, "where home was." Asbury explained that the season began shortly after finishing his "Homecoming" project, which he now considers the final worship album he completed before stepping away from church leadership and public ministry.
Reflecting on that difficult chapter, Asbury compared his experience to the biblical story of the prodigal son. While "Reckless Love" famously centered on God's relentless pursuit, Asbury now says his own life eventually became a far more authentic prodigal story than the song that made him internationally known.
In one of the most striking parts of his testimony, Asbury admitted that his attitudes and actions during those years negatively impacted the church. He candidly wrote that he had been "doing Saul's work, persecuting the church," while wrongly believing he possessed the moral high ground. The confession marked one of the most transparent public statements the singer has made regarding his spiritual struggles.
According to Asbury, the turning point came through what he described as a loving but direct rebuke from Forrest Frank. Citing Proverbs 27:6 - "Faithful are the wounds of a friend" - Asbury said the correction became a catalyst for repentance and restoration. He publicly credited Frank by writing, "The rebuke of my brother (Forrest) gained heaven another soul."
The powerful testimony concluded with Asbury declaring: "I am The One. Thank you, Jesus."
