Guardians of the Galaxy Slated For July 2017: Star-Lord's Father, Thanos, Soundtrack #1
Before the worldwide release of Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, director James Gunn already teased that the galactic adventure will probably have a sequel. He mentioned at San Diego Comic Con Hall H that he will be back at the director's chair to helm the second movie. Co-writer Nicole Perlman even added more fuel to the fire by dropping that Gunn will also be on the chair of screenwriting for the sequel. To add to these, a video clip at the SDCC earlier this July showed Gunn with Chris Pratt, one of the leads in Guardians announcing the sequel.
This just shows how Marvel Studios and its crew are highly confident about Guardians of Galaxy, that they had the guts to reveal an announcement of a sequel way before the first one is released. But with early positive reviews, heavy marketing and more surrounding Guardians before its release, it seems logical for Marvel to be putting their big bet for a Guardians of Galaxy 2.
Marvel fans are definitely excited to see how Guardians 2 would connect to Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is to be released next year. Fans are also curious if The Collector that was played by Benicio del Toro in the first one will be back. In the first film, the character didn't have much role to the story after showing up for two brief scenes, but in the comic he plays an essential role. There's also the anticipation for Groot to finally be talking in the next film. Of course, Groot and his one liner "I am Groot" was pretty much the thing he said in the first film, but since being replanted after dying; there was a sneak peak of him speaking a complete sentence this time.
Chris Pratt's Star Lord or Peter Quill also seems to have more back story for his character in the sequel, as the plot would explore his origins; particularly to the identity of his father who was from another world. And there's also Thanos and whether he will be the main villain.
Meanwhile, Guardians' soundtrack Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is the year's second chart-topping soundtrack as it hits No. 1 on Billboard 200.
In the meantime, fans can enjoy the Marvel goodness with one in July 2016, which is likely to go to Doctor Strange and one in May 2017.
