A nationally broadcast moment of faith and reflection unfolded Tuesday evening as President Donald J. Trump participated in the weeklong "America Reads the Bible" initiative, reading Bible passage 2 Chronicles 7:11-22 in a prerecorded message from the Oval Office.
The reading aired during the 6 p.m. ET hour as part of the ongoing public Scripture reading hosted at the Museum of the Bible and streamed nationwide via Pure Flix. The passage includes the well-known verse: "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
In contrast to traditional presidential addresses, the segment featured the President reading the biblical text in full, without commentary or integration into a broader speech. Organizers describe the moment as a rare instance of uninterrupted Scripture reading from the Oval Office, marking a notable point in modern presidential engagement with faith in public life.
"This was a meaningful and humbling moment," said Bill Abbott, President and CEO of Great American Media. "To see the President of the United States simply read Scripture-not as commentary, but as the Word itself-underscores the heart of what this week represents."
The event is part of "America Reads the Bible," a coordinated national effort bringing together nearly 500 leaders across ministry, public service, and entertainment to read the entire Bible aloud from Genesis to Revelation over the course of one week. The initiative continues daily through April 25, with readings spanning historical books, wisdom literature, prophetic texts, and the New Testament.
Bunni Pounds, President and CEO of Christians Engaged and visionary behind the initiative, described the moment as deeply impactful. "This is a historic moment of reflection for our nation," she said, pointing to the symbolic weight of a sitting president participating in a public reading of Scripture.
Organizers estimate that millions of viewers will engage with the event by the week's end, as the livestream remains freely accessible through Pure Flix, extending the reach beyond Washington into homes, churches, and communities nationwide.
"America Reads the Bible" continues at the Museum of the Bible, with readings scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET each day.
