“The Chosen” Star Lara Silva Shares How Faith in Jesus Shaped Her Life and Acting Career

Brazilian actress Lara Silva says her personal faith in Jesus Christ has become inseparable from her acting career-especially through her role in the globally popular series The Chosen.

Silva portrays Eden, the wife of the disciple Simon Peter, played by Shahar Isaac. Her character brings a unique perspective to the series by exploring the emotional and relational impact that Jesus' ministry had on the families of the disciples-an angle rarely portrayed in biblical storytelling.

Silva, who grew up in Brazil before pursuing acting in the United States, has shared that her early life was not strongly rooted in Christian faith. However, in her mid-20s she experienced a turning point that reshaped both her spiritual life and professional path.

"I didn't grow up with a strong faith," Silva explained. "I didn't have a relationship with Jesus." After committing her life to Christ, she said her outlook on life and career dramatically changed. "I can't tell my acting journey without Jesus and vice versa," she said. "He spoke to me, like, 'I'm gonna help you.'"

According to Silva, her career has been marked by what she describes as "God connections"-moments where doors opened in ways she believes were guided by divine providence. She credits those experiences with ultimately leading her to join The Chosen, the historical drama created by Dallas Jenkins, which dramatizes the life and ministry of Jesus and His followers.

In the series, Eden's storyline explores themes of faith, sacrifice, marriage, and the cost of discipleship. Through her performance, Silva helps highlight how Jesus' ministry affected not only His disciples but also the people closest to them.

Reflecting on her role, Silva said she views the opportunity as both a professional milestone and a spiritual calling.

"He's the one who's gotten me here and paved the way for me to be able to tell and share what He's done for me," she said.

As The Chosen continues to grow into one of the most widely watched faith-based series in the world, Silva hopes her work on the show will encourage viewers to explore their own relationship with Christ-just as her own faith journey reshaped her life and career.
