Directed by filmmaker Stephen Pettit and hosted by biblical archaeologist Chris McKinny, the film follows McKinny on a global investigation that blends archaeological research, historical analysis, and dramatic reenactments. The production explores the disappearance of the Ark after the fall of Jerusalem and examines longstanding traditions about what may have happened to it.
The documentary examines three major theories about the Ark's fate, using textual analysis, archaeological exploration, and scholarly debate to investigate where the sacred artifact may have been hidden or taken. One segment even recreates the biblical moment when the prophet Jeremiah may have attempted to protect the Ark during the destruction of Jerusalem.
Produced by Gesher Media in partnership with Myriad Pictures, the film was shot across several countries with a large international production team and more than one hundred cast members. The creators describe the project as a "real-life Indiana Jones-style journey," combining cinematic storytelling with serious historical inquiry into one of history's most fascinating religious mysteries.
Legends of the Lost Ark will be shown in theaters for a limited three-day engagement, giving audiences the opportunity to experience the large-format documentary on the big screen. Tickets are available through participating theaters and the Fathom Entertainment website.
The film aims to bridge the ancient biblical world with modern audiences, inviting viewers to explore the enduring questions surrounding the Ark of the Covenant and its significance in biblical history.
