A trial date has been set for former Florida pastor Jonathan Elwing, who faces multiple felony charges related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and additional sexual battery allegations.

Elwing, formerly of Palm View Baptist Church in Palmetto, is scheduled to stand trial beginning April 20, 2026, at the Manatee County Courthouse. The charges stem from his June 2024 arrest following an investigation by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

According to authorities, the investigation began after law enforcement traced alleged cryptocurrency transactions linked to the purchase of illegal material. A subsequent search of Elwing's residence and related properties reportedly uncovered digital evidence leading to multiple counts involving possession and production of child sexual abuse material.

Prosecutors later expanded the case to include additional charges, including capital sexual battery involving a minor under the age of 12. Under Florida law, such charges carry the possibility of life imprisonment if a conviction is secured.

Elwing resigned from his pastoral position shortly before or following his arrest. Church leadership at Palm View Baptist Church previously stated that they were cooperating fully with authorities and expressed concern for victims and families impacted by the case.

Court proceedings in the months leading up to trial are expected to address evidentiary matters and pretrial motions. As the April 2026 date approaches, the case continues to draw attention within both legal and faith communities across the region.

Further updates are expected as the trial date nears.
