Hillsong's Global Senior Pastor Brian Houston Responds to the Church Going Online
As the coronavirus continues to sweep across the globe, churches are going online. For the first time, we are going to have many vacant churches come Sunday. Hillsong Church's senior pastor Brian Houston reflects: "These are unprecedented times as - for the first time in our 36 year history - our church buildings will be closed this weekend and all our services will be online at hillsong.com/online."
But Houston doesn't see the epidemic as a disaster. "Do I see this as a disaster? No! I see it as an opportunity. Like many other churches around the globe, our vision continues. Our buildings may be closed, but church is well and truly open.
Maybe you're feeling like your life is disrupted and your vision is under attack? After overcoming many difficult situations and circumstances, consider what Joseph was able to proclaim to his brothers,But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. (Genesis 50:20).
I believe that when evil rails against you, God will turn it to good. Our vision as a church is still intact. My vision as a husband, dad, and believer in Christ is still intact. This is not a time to lose faith. This is a time to step up and hold firmly on to all God's promises.
Remember Habakkuk 2:2-4, Then the LORD answered me and said: "Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith."
Stay in faith. Hold on to your vision. The BEST is yet to come."
