Ann B. Davis Dies at 88, Best Known as Alice On 'The Brady Bunch' (VIDEO)
Ann B. Davis, who played Alice, the beloved housekeeper on "The Brady Bunch" died on Sunday at the age of 88. Davis was currently living in San Antonio and according to her friends was in good health for her age, but she fell at her home on Sunday and was not able to recover at the hospital.
Her agent, Robert Malcolm, comfirmed that she fell in the bathroom and became comatose. She died at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday at a hospital in San Antonio, where she had lived with a minister friend and his wife. The she had been using a walker. He last spoke with her on her birthday, May 3. "She was a really nice, a really lovely woman," Malcolm said.
The Emmy-winning actress was mourned by her friends on Sunday. Co-star Florence Henderson released a statement Sunday sharing, ""I'm shocked and saddened! I've lost a wonderful friend and colleague."
Ann Davis was born Ann Bradford Davis in 1926, in Schenectady, New York, and grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania. She had an early role as a secretary on the 1950s sitcom "The Bob Cummings Show" where she won two Emmys during her time. She then became a house hold name as the Brady family's quick whitted housekeeper Alice Nelson.
Amazingly, "The Brady Bunch" only ran on ABC for five seasons, from September 26, 1969, to March 8, 1974. The show grew in popularity even more as it went into syndication for many years to come. In 1997, "Getting Davy Jones" (season 3, episode 12) was ranked No. 37 on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All-Time.
Ann did make guest appearances in several Brady reunion films and spin-off series, including the 1988 television reunion movie "A Very Brady Christmas."
