The Voice's Paxton Ingram's "Break These Chains" Enters the Billboard Christian Charts
Following last season's winner Jordan Smith who made multiple chart entries on Billboard Christian charts, Paxton Ingram is following suit. Ingram is a contestant in the current season of The Voice. His rendition of Tasha Cobbs' 2013 hit "Break Every Chain" on the show's April 25 episode has garnered the support and love from his legion of fans. His version starts at Nos. 1 and 2 Christian Digital Songs (23,000) and Hot Christian Songs, respectively.
Paxton Ingram, 23, of Miami, Fla., auditioned with "Dancing on My Own" by Robyn, hoping to show vulnerability and passion. He prompted an early chair turn from Blake Shelton. As the audition wound to a close, Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine turned as well. Blake said he recognized "true greatness" in Paxton. And despite a pre-audition preference for Pharrell, Paxton decided to join Team Blake. Paxton said the fact that Blake turned around first and the "greatness" comment made the difference.
Paxton says he's loved music since he was a kid and was obsessed with Michael Jackson. He started dancing to improve his performances and says that, at age 17, his dance career "took off." He was doing music videos and tours, working with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears, he says. "But seeing the artist singing and all the love they were receiving back - I wanted that so bad and I realized that was the actual dream." He's been writing, singing and performing for the past three years, struggling to break out as a singer. In the meantime, he teaches hip-hop classes.
