New Music Streaming Service The Overflow Targets Christian Music
Launched last week is the Toronto-based subscription service The Overflow. The Overflow is a streaming service that is targeted towards Christian music lovers. The service provider will have over 383,000 songs from Christian artists and crossover artists from major labels as well as some independent labels.
There are two major perks: The Overflow's price is only $4.99 per month. This is half the price of the typical $9.99-per-month subscription service, and allows streaming on multiple devices as well as offline caching on mobile devices.
That labels would bless a low-priced, genre-specific service speaks to the limitation of large-catalog services. Although people are free to choose from upwards of 30 million tracks, in reality some genres get more attention than others. "There's a general recognition that we want to highlight a part of the catalog that doesn't get much recognition. We can bring greater value," says the Overflow's co-founder Stephen Relph.
Second, there will be devotional reading plans that concumers can follow along from their favorite artists such as Hillsong United, Casting Crowns and Michael W. Smith. This way, Christian consumers can not only enjoy their favorite worship music, but they can delve deeper into the word guided by their favorite artist.
"Much like Christian radio, The Overflow is focused on super-serving that consumer base, and their depth of editorial content and curation should provide a robust experience for that audience."
